W. M. Jordan Welcomes its 2019 Summer Intern Class

PROJECT TAGS:

It is hard to believe that summer is here already! This week, W. M. Jordan Company welcomed our 2019 Summer Intern Class. Our 24th summer of interns, this class is our largest yet. 36 students from 10 different college and universities will be spending the summer learning at WMJ offices and jobsites. Our 2019 class features 12 students who are returning from a previous internship with WMJ.

WMJ will have interns working in many of our departments, including; Estimating, Virtual Construction, Field Operations, Project Engineering and Project Management. This year we are excited to have our very first accounting intern!

While interns will be at each WMJ location, they spent the first two days of the program meeting at our home office in Newport News. They went through an orientation program to learn about company culture, expectations and hear from past interns on how the make the most of the experience. Every intern also completed mandatory OSHA safety training before heading off to their jobsites.

Unique to our program we have three legacies joining us this summer. Elizabeth Darden’s dad, John, is a WMJ Project Superintendent who has been with the company for 31 years. Tyler Collins’ dad, Jim, is a WMJ Project Superintendent and his grandfather, Jimmy, was with WMJ for 38 years before retiring several years ago. We also have Jack Lawson, son of WMJ Executive Director John Lawson, joining our intern program again this summer.

WMJ looks forward to spending a fun and educational summer with our students. We learn just as much from our interns as they do from us!

Stay tuned to hear from our interns over the course of the summer and keep up with the different projects and activities they have going on.
