As we celebrate Administrative Professional’s Week 2021, we turn the spotlight to a few of W. M. Jordan’s administrators who help keep our teams and projects running smoothly. Today, we introduce you to Emily Story, an executive assistant in our Wilmington, north Carolina office.
How did you get into construction? Honestly it was the luck of the draw! My first job in construction was as an executive assistant to the president of an electrical contractor in Massachusetts. I moved back to North Carolina to take care of my mother and was fortunate enough to meet WMJ Senior Project Manager Jerry Winegar, who introduced me to W. M. Jordan.
What are your main duties? I work very closely with our Vice President of the Carolinas, Rob Beale. I work as a liaison between him and the rest of our team in the Carolinas, as well as our trade partners and external colleagues. I also organize meetings, set up travel arraignments and manage Rob’s calendar. Internally, I make sure our office and field offices have all the supplies they need. I also help work with our community partners like Habitat for Humanity and the American Heart Association. I get to wear many hats!
What do you enjoy the most about your job? My favorite part of my job is helping to plan team events that maintain and build comradery in the Carolinas. We are a very tight knit group and I love getting to know my coworkers better.
Is there anyone specific who has helped you in your career? My mom has been a big influence in how I wound up in this industry. She worked in construction for most of my life. Growing up and watching her projects come to life inspired me to follow a career in the construction industry.
