Riverside Regional Medical Center's Physical Transition Project is a replace-in-place of the existing facilities on the hospital's 56-acre campus in central Newport News. The first phase of the project, Phase 1-A, includes a new emergency department, a freestanding outpatient surgery center, and a tower off the hospital's current entrance featuring elevators and expanded lobby spaces. The existing building has been re-clad with new windows and exterior finishes. The project includes extensive site work with several new parking lots, internal roadways and a new entrance.
Phase I-B includes a new parking garage, Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Care Unit, and renovations of the existing hospital. The 205,715 square foot parking garage is for use by employees of the hospital. The four-story pre-cast concrete structure features vehicular entrances and exits at both ends, serviced by a card operated gate that counts the traffic flow and can be over-ridden at the security console inside the hospital.
Jordan/McCarthy, a joint venture, provided construction management services for the entire project.
