W. M. Jordan Company provided general contracting services to construct the Hampton Roads Convention Center. Located on 90 acres of public land near the Hampton Coliseum, the 320,000 square foot structure contains three exhibit halls, a large lobby, more than twenty meeting rooms, and several pre-function areas. The center features two ballrooms, a main ballroom with a 25' high ceiling, and another smaller, junior ballroom for galas and events.

The Virginia Society of the American Institute of Architects awarded Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum a Certificate of Merit for Excellence in Architecture for this project in November 2005. Distinctive features of the project include tensile structures covered with Teflon-coated fiberglass structural fabric at the front of the building and black granite at the front façade.
