UMW Randolph and Mason Residence Halls

Fredericksburg, Virginia
University of Mary Washington
Bowie Gridley Architects
102,000 square feet of renovations and 8,000 square feet of new construction

W.M. Jordan Company provided Construction Management services for extensive renovations to two residence halls at the University of Mary Washington, originally constructed in 1955. The project created modern spaces for students while bringing the residence halls into full compliance with current building codes. Renovations included all new windows, new roofs, new elevator, and completely new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, sprinkler, and fire alarm systems. Designed and constructed to LEED® Silver criteria, the building features occupancy sensors in all of the rooms, low-flow plumbing, and Energy Recovery Units on the new HVAC system.

In order to maintain the architectural integrity of the two buildings, our team took special care to preserve historical features of the building during interior demolition. They later incorporated elements such as exterior columns, original molding and wainscoting, and historical pieces found throughout the building into the renovated buildings.
