Intern Spotlight: Nathan Kersey

August 9, 2017

Name: Nathan Kersey

School: Virginia Military Institute

Assignment: MWR Bowling Center, VCU GRC I & II

Intern Year: First Year

Describe your duties: For the majority of the summer, I was at the MWR Bowling Center helping the project team with the punch list and closeout process. I contacted subcontractors to ensure warranty and operation and maintenance data was turned in as requested, and then reviewed this information before uploading it onto SharePoint. I also used Bluebeam Revu and field measurements to come up with accurate takeoffs to help satisfy various government documents for Ft. Lee. Recently, I have moved to the project at VCU and have spent my first two weeks focused on mitigating the safety risks that are a part of the 12-story building at this stage in its construction.

How does your internship fit into your long-term career goals? This internship has helped fit my long-term career goals by providing valuable field experience. I have had the unique opportunity this summer to work on two different types of jobs at completely different phases, and in doing so I have learned a great deal about the skills necessary to run a successful project. I hope to continue to expand on this experience and eventually reach my goal of becoming a project manager.

Describe your favorite way to spend your time outside of working this summer: Outside of work, I spend most of my time golfing or on the lake waterskiing with friends and family.
