Courtney Montgomery

Name: Courtney Montgomery

School: Duke University

Assignment: Virtual Construction Intern

Intern Year: First Year

Describe your duties: I am currently creating element families to expand the model library. This will enable the department to input elements such as shear rail and rebar into their models.

How does your internship fit into your long-term career goals?: I plan to major in civil and architectural engineering, but I am not sure in which stage of the construction process I would like to have a career. While my internship here at W.M. Jordan focuses on virtual design, it also allows me to participate in meetings with architects and engineers where I am able to learn a lot about their responsibilities and contributions. Overall I am gaining experience in many phases of the construction process which will help me figure out where I would like to focus my career.

Describe your favorite way to spend your time outside of working this summer: Going to country concerts will always be my favorite summer activity, but this year we also have the Olympics, so I will be watching those every chance I get. I am also a huge fan of watching Buzzfeed food how-to videos.

Tell us something interesting about yourself: I was the assistant athletic trainer for my high school. This meant I was in charge of taping athletes before practices and games, tending to them on the field if they were injured, and aiding in their rehabilitation processes.
