We’re thrilled to announce that John Lawson, president and CEO, of W. M. Jordan, has been named one of the Most Influential Virginians by Virginia Business.

One of the biggest general contractors in the state, Newport News-based W.M. Jordan Co. is behind some of the major developments in Virginia and beyond.

The company is the general contractor of The Main, a 23-story Hilton hotel and conference center in downtown Norfolk, which will have 300 rooms and more than 80,000 square feet of conference space.

The company also is the builder and developer of the $450 million Tech Center at Oyster Point in Newport News, whose first building opened in July.

In addition, the company is the construction manager in the $260 million renovation of the Cavalier Hotel project in Virginia Beach, which includes redevelopment of a historic hotel and construction of a new hotel tower.

Lawson serves on many boards, including the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters and the Myers-Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech. He also chairs Christopher Newport University’s campaign to raise $42 million. Last year, the Hampton Roads Association of Fundraising Professionals named him Outstanding Philanthropist.

In 1986, John Lawson became president of W.M. Jordan Co. William Jordan, with whom Bob Lawson co-founded W.M. Jordan, had retired the previous year, and his shares in the company were bought by John Lawson and his father, Bob. Since then, the company’s annual revenue has grown from about $49 million to more than $350 million.
