CCAM Named 2013 “Best of the Best” Project

Engineering News Record has named the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM) as 2013’s Best of the Best in the country in the Manufacturing category. The national winners were chosen by 16 independent industry professionals from various regions and sectors based on a variety of criteria including innovation, safety, contribution to the community, aesthetic quality and workmanship. These national honors were selected from regional winners of McGraw Hill Construction’s network of Regional Publications. Nearly 700 projects submitted for regional awards, yielding 166 regional winners from which the panel chose the 19 Best of the Best in 20 categories.

Designed by Perkins + Will, CCAM is an applied research center that bridges the gap between fundamental research typically performed at universities and product development routinely performed by companies. Manufacturers collaborate with faculty and students from the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech and Virginia State University to perform advanced research in surface engineering and manufacturing systems.
